Clan History [SB] was started on October 31, 2002 by Blargh. The place was Barge of the Dead. The map was concjumptfc. The history of [SB] goes back much farther than that, though. Blargh had been a member of ESL, another clan on the same server, for several months. He had seen it change from a well-respected powerhouse clan, to a pitiful mess that almost went defunct, back again to a powerhouse. During his tenure, ESL had risen to be one of the top clans on theclq, a stats and ratings site. Also during that time, the Barge was one of the top 5 servers worldwide. Well, not long after that, the server started having troubles (mostly with the connection), and things seemed to be slowing down. It was in the midst of all this, in August of 2002, that Blargh was banned from the Barge for suspicion of cheating. Everything ended up getting resolved about a week later and he was unbanned, but that had been a very tough week for Blargh, and he had resigned from ESL during that period. He held no grudge against the clan or any of its members, but had to be responsible and live up to his decision. So, he watched other clans come and go for awhile, such as EF-X, NATO, LINK, HFS, and R, and also watched ESL sit atop the Barge throne, virtually unopposed. It was when the [R] clan had just died that there was some strife on the Barge's messageboard. People were upset about [R], what it stood for, why people thought it died, etc. Amidst all this controversy came a post by the Barge's owner, DB, or Dead_Baby, in response to a comment somebody had made about the number of server admins in ESL. Emphasizing that clan isn't important when it comes to being an admin, he said something along the lines of, "It doesn't matter if you're in the [Swinging Bitches] clan!" This gave Blargh an idea. Blargh had recently started using binds, and learned how to insert other players' names in the bind dynamically. To try it out, he made his bind say, "Hello <player name>, you sexy beast!!!" Well, this phrase was silly and had grown somewhat popular, with a lot of people copying it to use themselves. When Blargh saw DB's [Swinging Bitches] comment, he had the idea to start the [SexyBeast] clan. It would be a clan that stood for having fun, and not getting bogged down with the controversy and politics and other BS that had brought down so many other clans. It would be a clan where people were a team, and were fun to play with or against. It would be a clan that would not have destroying or undermining another clan (ESL for instance) as its driving goal. It would be a clan that would fight and win, but most importantly, have fun in the process. Blargh ran the idea past his co-worker and fellow Barge regular (at the time) Drizz't, who thought it was a good idea. So, there it happened, playing concjumptfc, when Blargh asked Joker and Rallon if they were interested. They gave an enthusiastic "YES," and [SB] was born! REBIRTH :o There's more! [SB] went inactive sometime in 2004, and faded into obscurity... Well, as of August 25, 2006 we're back! Thanks to Blargh for his permission to get us up and running, to Jinx for his financial support, the members from NsXG who decided to join us, and to those in [SB] who made it what it is, and who came back from the dead along with [SB] :D SexyBeast Web Enterprises |
